Sustainability

Our micro hydropower station produces our own electricity

The Green Jeweller

The micro hydropower project began in 2016. It was the brainchild of Anthony Paul Jewellery founder, Anthony Jackson, and his partner Corina Walker, with the vision of contributing towards a more sustainable planet. The hydropower station’s built deep in the Welsh mountains, harvesting the power from two large streams and producing enough clean energy for over 100 homes per year.

It’s helped us become a carbon neutral company, so we can now proudly say that all our handmade jewellery’s produced using renewable green energy. But we don’t want to stop there – we’re always researching even more sustainable projects to invest in over the coming years.

The Process

Here’s a glimpse into the work behind the three-year-long project…

Step 1

The first step was building two weirs and a forebay tank.

Step 2

The second step was to build the power station and grid connection cubicle at the base of the mountain.

Step 3

Then 900 metres of pipe and cabling were installed to connect the weirs at the top to the power station at the bottom.

Step 4

This was followed by installation of the turbine, generator and computer control system.

Step 5

Finally, the wiring, commissioning and the TURNING ON…

Hydro

Our hydro is one of our proudest achievements and we take great pride in knowing we are helping to make the world a better place through sustainable business practices. We look forward to the future and what possibilities there are for Anthony Paul Jewellery's sustainability journey. Trees creating habits and encouraging wildlife to flourish with a longterm aim of re-introducing endagered species.

Materials

We put great importance on ensuring we are using materials that have been ethically sourced and conflict-free. Whenever possible, we continue our drive for sustainability by re-cycling high-quality gemstones and metals into new pieces of jewellery that we proudly display in all four of our boutiques. From Edwardian old-cut diamonds repurposed into beautiful new rings to solid gold pieces made from recycled gold, we are delighted to say that a great deal of out trade is done responsibly. We're proud to have a close relationship with a British gold refiner that transforms metal that we buy in from the public meaning we are preventing new gold from being mined and using re-cycled gold in all of our jewellery repairs, bespoke pieces and display jewellery.

Packaging

From small things to big things we are always trying to find new ways to be eco-friendly. To stop the use of plastic bags we spent months researching and developing how to create the perfect packaging made from recycled materials. After a long time researching we finally developed 100% bio-degradable bags, including the handle, for every purchase of a piece of Anthony Paul Jewellery without compromising the luxury look we all love when it comes to fine jewellery packaging. Along with our packaging our business cards are also made from 100% recycled materials.
